SELF Magazine, creator of the Pink Ribbon, has long been dedicated to the issues of women’s health and breast cancer awareness. Editorially, SELF’s special 25th Anniversary issue, September 2004 (on newsstands August 24), will feature the first excerpt of Why I Wore Lipstick. SELF’s award-winning annual Breast Cancer Handbook in October will also incorporate information about Why I Wore Lipstick.
“If humor has a role in curing breast cancer, then Geralyn Lucas should win the prize,” says Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief of SELF magazine. “Her honest, funny and courageous account of facing down the disease is both inspiring and entertaining, and readers who know anyone going through treatment will love this singularly upbeat account. SELF chose Geralyn to be a featured part of the Breast Cancer Handbook and she turned this experience into a book about her journey. The partnership continues with promoting Why I Wore Lipstick and the September issue of SELF. To the 5 million readers of the magazine, Geralyn is like an old friend, and like SELF, they trust her to bring them the truth.”
Promotionally, SELF will feature Geralyn Lucas and other Why I Wore Lipstick partners as content at high-profile consumer events this fall including Simon Malls for You, a nationwide promotional tour; Pathways to Beauty and Well-Being, at New York’s Jacob Javits Center; and Courage Night and In Living Pink, two breast cancer fundraising/awareness events at the SELF Center in New York. Westin Hotels & Resorts, a presenting sponsor of Courage Night, will sponsor a four-page advertising section in SELF’s October issue (on newsstands September 28) entitled Courage Night: Celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness.
