The Zeta’s are MORE than a fraternity. Since 1992 they have been tireless champions who partner up with sponsors in order to educate young women nationwide about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Their commitment and reach is staggering! Geralyn was SO honored when they made her an Honorary Initiate of Theta Xi Chapter at Rutgers University during Convention 2006.
Founded in 1898, Zeta Tau Alpha, a social and philanthropic organization for women, consists of over 180,000 members belonging to 143 collegiate chapters and 252 alumnae chapters located throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
In 1992, Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) adopted breast cancer education and awareness as its national philanthropy. ZTA devoted its philanthropic efforts to fighting breast cancer through education, awareness, research and by promoting breast health. Since that time, Zetas have distributed more than 9 million waterproof Breast Self Examination Shower Cards, 3.3 million Breast Self Examination Calendar Reminder Stickers and 1.25 million THINK-PINK!® ribbons and information cards in order to promote breast cancer education in local communities.
Also in 1992, Zeta Tau Alpha became the first national sponsor of the National Series Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program at the Komen Race for the Cure®. Since that year, ZTA has continually served as a national sponsor of the Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program providing “In Memory of” and “In Honor of” back signs to race participants, and pink hats and pink t-shirts to breast cancer survivors. ZTA members nationwide volunteer their time in support of the Komen race events.
ZTA has also joined with the National Football League to THINK-PINK!®. Zetas have spread the message of breast cancer awareness to more than 500,000 football fans across the country with NFL teams such as the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis Rams, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins. In addition to the NFL, Zetas are distributing breast cancer education materials at baseball games, basketball games, hockey games, malls, and other special events.
In February 2004, Zeta Tau Alpha strengthened their role in the fight against breast cancer when they registered THINK-PINK!® as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Offices for the purpose of educational services, breast cancer awareness and self-examination instruction. Registering the trademark insures that ZTA can continue to enhance community awareness with a more concentrated and recognizable campaign and focus.
Zeta Tau Alpha members will be distributing pink ribbons, breast self-exam shower cards, and breast self exam reminder stickers at the Courage Night locations. These items are provided by the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation and the hundreds of thousands of Zetas across the country who donate to the ZTA Foundation. Zeta Tau Alpha is happy to allow the use of our trademarked THINK-PINK!® logo and theme to unify the Courage Nights and other related events. ZTA will also be promoting the Courage Nights and Geralyn Lucas’s book, Why I Wore Lipstick, to its collegiate and alumnae members throughout the world.
